Does this program teach kindergarten readiness?
At Yikes Tikes! we strive to promote rich learning opportunities that will prepare children for success in kindergarten. We emphasize the skills that they will rely on when they transition to kindergarten including phonological awareness (an important step in learning to read), number sense, fine and gross motor skills, and social and emotional skills to build positive interactions with other children and adults.
Are parents permitted to be in the classroom with their child?
Yes, Yikes Tikes! has an open door policy. We welcome and strongly encourage parent participation.
How old does my child have to be to participate in the program?
Yikes Tikes! provides programming for children ages 2 to 4.9 years.
What if my child is not potty trained?
Our program does not require children to be potty trained prior to enrollment. We are happy to assist you and your child when he or she is ready to begin potty training, though we do advise diapers at school until the child is successfully potty trained at home.
My child has recently been diagnosed with autism, is Yikes Tikes! a good fit for my child?
Yikes Tikes! is an inclusionary preschool, meaning that we strive to make our program available to all children regardless of developmental ability. However, for some cases we recognize that we do not have the staffing capacity to meet this goal. We encourage parents of children with autism and other special needs to visit our program to determine if it is a good fit for their child.
Does Yikes Tikes! provide Speech Therapy and/or Occupational Therapy services?
While Yikes Tikes! is supported by Speech-Language Pathologists and Occupational Therapists and its curriculum is influenced by the expertise of these professionals, it is not a therapeutic environment.
If your child needs speech, language or occupational therapy, please speak with the office manager to set up an evaluation with the Center for Speech Language and Occupational Therapy.
