The mission of Yikes Tikes! is to provide an inclusive early learning environment for children and families.

At Yikes Tikes! we present children with an expansive range of perspectives by welcoming children of varied developmental abilities, ethnicities and economic backgrounds. We combine a range of age groups in our classroom, helping children develop empathy, understanding, acceptance and respect for the differences of others. Yikes Tikes! takes its inspiration from the Reggio Emilia approach to preschool education, which gives parents, teachers and children equal voice in the learning experience.Yikes Tikes! teaches children self-confidence, a sense of belonging, and appreciation for personal uniqueness, emulating and celebrating the diversity of the Bay Area and the world beyond.

Yikes Tikes! provides a high-quality, inclusive early learning environment for children ages 24 to 57 months. Our state-of-the-art program allows each child to reach his or her full potential through curiously engaging with the world. We recognize each child as the primary agent of his or her own learning, bringing parents, children, teachers, and the  environment together to set the stage for lifelong learning and school success for all children.

Our staff is comprised of early childhood education specialists, speech-language pathologists, and occupational therapists, who work as a team to provide rich learning environments for Yikes Tikes! children. Our teachers observe the children’s interests and join them in constructing an understanding of the world. In order to observe and respond accurately to children’s interests, we maintain the 1:6 teacher-to-child ratio recommended by the National Association for the Education of Young Children.

Our teachers partner with member parents in the classroom. Parents participate in the classroom 10 hours per month, in exchange for program membership. While in the classroom, parents have a chance to work with children other than their own, providing a reference and insight into their own child’s behaviors. They observe and learn from teacher reactions to children, allowing them to feel more empowered, focused, and thoughtful in parenting their own child. They also have the chance to interact with other parents, and to share stories and experiences while forming lasting family-to-family friendships.

Our parent cooperative model makes Yikes Tikes! available to member families at no cost, providing early childhood education, parent education, and community support. Yikes Tikes! is located in Fremont, San Jose, and Los Altos.
